HAPPY NEW YEAR! ARE YOU THINKING ABOUT GETTING IN SHAPE? WE SURE ARE!
While much of the world is thinking about getting in shape as a New Year’s resolution, in landscape it takes on a different meaning.
Did you know that January and February are the best time to prune trees in South Florida? This is the dormant period in the tree’s growth cycle. Therefore, it’s less stressful and the best time for pruning. Because trees do not have to multi-task and split energy between healing and growing, you’ll have more lush and vibrant foliage.
There are a couple more reasons to getting your trees in shape.
Anytime between late fall and early spring is right for pruning, but it will soon be the time when we see new buds start forming. By taking care of pruning now, you allow the plant to start closing the open wounds that pruning creates. When you allow enough healing time, trees are less vulnerable to insects and disease that spring up during the warmer months.
Besides a healthier tree, there are more practical reasons. During the winter, trees have fewer leaves making it idea for your Arborist to make the best cuts. Fewer leaves also mean better access and less mess.
